A HOUSE RESOLUTION urging the Legislative Council
to assign the topic of absentee ballot issues to an interim study
committee.
Whereas, The right to vote is the foundation of our
democratic form of government;
Whereas, Americans must take all the steps necessary to
ensure that every citizen is given the opportunity to vote;
Whereas, The right to cast an absentee ballot is invaluable
to ensure that each Hoosier with the right to vote has the ability
to cast a vote in all elections;
Whereas, Two issues of great importance that require
further study are ballot security for an absentee ballot
transmitted to and from a voter by mail and connection of the
statewide voter registration list and files maintained by the
department of state revenue; and
Whereas, These issues require additional study to ensure
that the proper steps are taken to protect the right of Hoosiers
to vote absentee: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives urges the Legislative Council to assign the topic of absentee ballot issues to an interim study committee.
SECTION 2. That the committee, if established, shall operate under the direction of the legislative council, and that the committee shall issue a final report when directed to do so by the council.
