A RESOLUTION honoring the Whitko High School art
students.
Whereas, The World School Children's Art Exhibition is
held "to promote mutual understanding and friendship among
the young generation of the world through the exchange of
children's art work";
Whereas, The exhibition is organized by the Association for
Education through Art, the Republic of China, and the
Association of Formative Art Education for the Republic of
China;
Whereas, The exhibition is open to school children ages 6 through 15;
Whereas, Students from Whitko High School, South Whitley, participated in the 40th World School Children's Art Exhibition in the Republic of China, Taipei;
Whereas, The Whitko students represented one of only ten
schools from the United States in the exhibition;
Whereas, The United States won three silver medals overall
with Whitko students Rebekah Brenneman and Jesse Warner
receiving two of them;
Whereas, Of the 24 selected medals received by the United
States, six were awarded to Whitko students Sarah Craft,
Trapper Mize, Gabrielle Goodman, Audra Day, Kelly
Kimberlin, and Kate Hippensteel;
Whereas, Kendall Terrill and Trapper Mize received
honorable mention in the Yang Ming Second International
Children's Painting Contest in China;
Whereas, Whitko High School art students, who are taught
by the innovative and dedicated art teacher, Walter C. Malicki,
have received 35 national and 133 international awards to
date; and
Whereas, The accomplishments of this outstanding group
of students and their dedicated teacher should be recognized by
all of the people of Indiana: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates the Whitko High School art students who have used their great creativity and their artistic expression to forge new friendships and understanding across the world at the 40th World School Children's Art Exhibition in the Republic of China, Taipei. The students and art teacher Walter Malicki are to be commended for their accomplishments.
SECTION 2. That copies of this resolution be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to Parrish Kruger, Whitko High School Principal, Walter C. Malicki, Whitko High School Art Teacher, and to
each of the Whitko High School art students participating in the 40th World School Children's Art Exhibition.
