HOUSE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION

        A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION recognizing Avon's commitment to forever honor the service and sacrifices of the United States' Greatest Generation, both veterans and civilians, for their dedicated guardianship of the American Dream through the most troubled time in world history.

    Whereas, The citizens of Avon began planning a dedicated World War II Memorial Park several years ago, including efforts to raise private funds for that purpose;

    Whereas, The citizens of Avon were determined to make the memorial park an adjunct educational facility readily available to all Hendricks County community schools;

    Whereas, The centerpiece of the Avon World War II Memorial Park is a life-size bronze statue representing the American GI whose countenance represents that of a lifelong Hoosier, Brigadier General (ret) Chet Wright, who retired as Assistant Adjutant General of the State of Indiana and who has become the face of Avon's Memorial Park project;

    Whereas, The park, located on Dan Jones Road at its intersection with County Road 100 S., is an officially dedicated and marked Blue Star Memorial By-Way;

    Whereas, Only the second generation of Americans to have lived with the awareness that their lives could become subordinated to a foreign power, these brave men and women truly lived up to the ideals of the first such generation and, through determination and sacrifice, defeated freedom's enemies; and

    Whereas, The citizens of Indiana stand in humble respect of that generation of over 12 million American GI's and a civilian population who also 'went to war' through victory gardens, rationing, bond drives, and countless daily sacrifices so that Americans could live free: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

    SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly commends the efforts of the citizens of Avon, joins them in their commitment to respect and honor America's Greatest Generation, and urges the people of Indiana to thank both veterans and civilians of that generation for their tremendous sacrifice on behalf of their state and their nation. The Indiana General Assembly supports all Hendricks County community schools in their efforts to instill that same sense of respect and honor in their students and urges the people of Indiana to attend the Avon World War II Memorial Park Dedication Ceremony and visit the park often.
    SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Paul Morton.
