    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Indiana Girls and Women in Sports.

    Whereas, Indiana Girls and Women in Sports Day, celebrated February 9, 2010, recognizes female athletic achievements and provides equality for girls and women participating in sporting events; and

    Whereas, women and girls have a rich tradition of sports, and should be honored with continuing support for sports equality and increased access in the State of Indiana; and

    Whereas, female athletics help women and girls bolster their confidence and increase leadership skills regardless of background; and

    Whereas, women and girls create bonds through athletics that assist in breaking down the barriers of racism and sexism; and

    Whereas, teamwork learned by women and girls in sports can help in future endeavors; and

    Whereas, girls and women develop lifelong habits pursuing excellence in sports and academics with increased opportunities; therefore



Be it resolved by the House of Representatives

of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana,

the Senate concurring:

                                        


    SECTION 1. That Indiana recognizes the Indiana Girls and Women in Sports Day February 9, 2010 and calls upon Hoosiers to recognize the important role athletics play in the development of girls and women throughout Indiana.
