Summary

After December 31, 2016, reestablishes the state board of education (state board) consisting of: (1) the state superintendent of public instruction; (2) one member elected from each Indiana congressional district; and (3) a teacher, principal, and school superintendent, all appointed by the state superintendent from lists of nominees submitted by the leaders of each political party in the general assembly. Provides that candidates for election to the state board are nominated at state political party conventions. Provides that a vacancy in the office of elected state board member is to be filled by a caucus comprised of the precinct committeemen of the political party whose precincts are within the congressional district where the vacancy has occurred. Makes conforming amendments. Makes a technical correction.
