1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Donnell "Slim" Spivey Sr., who passed | ||||||
4 | away on June 12, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Donnell Spivey Sr. was born on October 8, 1956 in | ||||||
6 | Chicago; his parents were Annie Mae and Joe Spivey Sr.; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Donnell Spivey Sr. accepted Christ into his life | ||||||
8 | at an early age and was baptized at Hartzell Methodist Church; | ||||||
9 | after graduating from Dunbar Vocational High School in 1974, he | ||||||
10 | attended Chicago State University, where he majored in | ||||||
11 | education and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1978; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Donnell Spivey Sr. worked as an educator at | ||||||
14 | various high schools and elementary schools in Chicago; he also | ||||||
15 | worked as a preschool teacher at his sister's day care center; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, In 1988, Donnell Spivey Sr. became a Cook County | ||||||
18 | Correctional Sheriff, graduating from the academy with an award | ||||||
19 | for Outstanding Correctional Officer; he was employed by the | ||||||
20 | county for 28 years until his passing; and

1 | WHEREAS, Donnell Spivey Sr. enjoyed listening to music, | ||||||
2 | cooking, working in his garden, and showing his skills in | ||||||
3 | carpentry, plumbing, and mechanical repairs; he was an avid | ||||||
4 | photographer; he was well known for his holiday parties, where | ||||||
5 | he would give out prizes from raffles or other games; he also | ||||||
6 | loved to provide his family and friends with a firework display | ||||||
7 | on the Fourth of July; and

8 | WHEREAS, Donnell Spivey Sr. is survived by his son, Donnell | ||||||
9 | Jr.; his sisters, Deborah Jackson, Doris Tomkins, Cheryl | ||||||
10 | (Tyrone Sr.) Peters, Tracy Hayes, and Scarlet Spivey; his | ||||||
11 | brothers, Joseph Spivey Jr., Anthony (Regina) Spivey, and | ||||||
12 | Kenneth (Wanda) Spivey Sr.; his aunt, Luella Bacon; and many | ||||||
13 | nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends; therefore, | ||||||
14 | be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | ||||||
17 | family and friends, mourn the passing of Donnell "Slim" Spivey | ||||||
18 | Sr.; and be it further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Donnell Spivey Sr. as an expression | ||||||
21 | of our sympathy.
