SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Gilbert "Gil" Farnham of Huntley, who
passed away on May 23, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham was born on May 22, 1933 in
Freeport; his parents were Benjamin and Mattie Farnham; he
married Patricia "Pat" Jensen in 1957; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham served in the United States Army
in Germany during the Korean Conflict; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham graduated from Freeport High
School in 1952; he later graduated from Illinois State Normal
Teachers College in 1959; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham taught general science in
Galesburg and biology at Sycamore High School; he later worked
at Turner-Cleanweld Industries in Sycamore; he was one of the
designers of the 1984 Olympic Torch and traveled at the
beginning of the Olympic Torch Run to see the lighting of the
cauldron; he retired in 1999 and moved to the new Sun City in
Huntley in 2000; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham was a member of the Huntley

American Legion, the Sun City Lions, and St. Mary Church, where
he served as lector; he served on the board of the Sycamore
Credit Union and was a member of the DeKalb County Management
Club; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham was preceded in death by his
parents and his sister, Shirley; and
WHEREAS, Gilbert Farnham is survived by his wife, Patricia;
his children, Tess Farnham, Michael (Kathie) Farnham, Julene
(Mike) Diaz, and Mark (Heather) Farnham; his grandchildren,
David, Kristen, Kimberly, Alex, Connor, Hannah, Sophie, and
Ben; his great-grandchildren, Alexa, McKenzie, Miles,
Sebastian, and Lucas; and his sister, Beverly Stichter;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
family and friends, mourn the passing of Gilbert "Gil" Farnham;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Gilbert Farnham as an expression of
our sympathy.
