2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Sandra D. "Sandy" Bauer of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on January 19, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer was born to Floyd and Helen (Pohlod) | ||||||
6 | Durning in Springfield on September 1, 1943; she attended | ||||||
7 | Springfield High School, where she was captain of the | ||||||
8 | cheerleading squad; she earned a Bachelor of Science from | ||||||
9 | Millikin University and a Master of Education from the | ||||||
10 | University of Illinois; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer taught in a few cities before | ||||||
12 | returning to Springfield, where she taught at Springfield | ||||||
13 | Public Schools District 186; while teaching at Iles Gifted | ||||||
14 | Magnet School, she became a pioneer in teaching gifted | ||||||
15 | education and using technology to innovate learning, retiring | ||||||
16 | in 2010; and

17 | WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer was the recipient of a Fulbright | ||||||
18 | Memorial Fund Teacher Grant to study schools and culture in | ||||||
19 | Japan for three weeks; after being nominated three times, she | ||||||
20 | won the Horace Mann Educator of the Year Award in 2009; and

21 | WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer served as president of the Twins Club |

1 | and the Springfield USA Swim Club, and she served on numerous | ||||||
2 | Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) boards at each school her | ||||||
3 | children attended; she volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln | ||||||
4 | Presidential Museum; and

5 | WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer enjoyed wearing bright colors, chunky | ||||||
6 | necklaces, and fun shoes, making appetizers for her Bunco | ||||||
7 | group, sharing a good drink with her book club, cuddling up | ||||||
8 | with her treasured cat, Honey, while reading a good book, | ||||||
9 | watching the news, and spending cherished time with her | ||||||
10 | grandchildren; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer will be remembered for her | ||||||
12 | personality, dedication, creativity, warmth, and her love for | ||||||
13 | her family; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Sandy Bauer is survived by her twin daughters, | ||||||
15 | Elizabeth "Libby" Peach and Gwendolyn "Wendy" (Lee) Rudolph, | ||||||
16 | and her grandchildren, Logan, Ella, Hudson, and Mason; | ||||||
17 | therefore, be it

19 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Sandra D. "Sandy" Bauer and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
21 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
