2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Merle R. Durnell of East Moline, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on December 16, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell was born to Herbert and Elvyn | ||||||
6 | Wainwright Durnell in Moline on January 26, 1930; he served in | ||||||
7 | the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict; he married Frances | ||||||
8 | Berg at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Geneseo on June 20, | ||||||
9 | 1953, and she preceded him in death on May 20, 2006; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell retired from ALCOA in 1993 after | ||||||
11 | more than 30 years of service; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell enjoyed bowling and playing cards; | ||||||
13 | and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell was devoted to his faith and his | ||||||
15 | family; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell was preceded in death by his | ||||||
17 | parents; his son, Herbert "Herb" Durnell; and his sister, | ||||||
18 | Melba Spavin; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Merle Durnell is survived by his children, Jay |

1 | Durnell and Mary (Dan) Carter; his daughter-in-law, Julie | ||||||
2 | Durnell; his grandchildren, Mark (Crystal) Durnell and Amy | ||||||
3 | Berry; and his great-grandchildren, Audri, Tyler, Gabriel, | ||||||
4 | Katelyn, Jacob, and Anna; therefore, be it
