1 | SENATE RESOLUTION | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator Gary | ||||||
4 | Glenn Dahl of Peru, who passed away on October 1, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was born in Lake Mills, Iowa to Glenn | ||||||
6 | and Evelyn (Hanson) Dahl on December 5, 1940; he spent his | ||||||
7 | younger years enjoying life on the farm with his four sisters | ||||||
8 | and brother; he served his country in the United States Army | ||||||
9 | from 1958 to 1962 as a helicopter mechanic; he married Deb on | ||||||
10 | October 12, 2002; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was a truck driver and founded his own | ||||||
12 | small business in 1985, the Double D Express; he grew the | ||||||
13 | business from three trucks and drivers to 100 trucks, 350 | ||||||
14 | trailers, and 200 employees; he treasured the friendships he | ||||||
15 | made in the transportation world; and

16 | WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl retired from the trucking industry and | ||||||
17 | decided to run for Illinois State Senate in the 38th District, | ||||||
18 | hoping to make a difference for the people in his district; he | ||||||
19 | spent his time in Springfield being a voice for the people; | ||||||
20 | during session, he lived in a recreational vehicle and donated | ||||||
21 | his salary to charity; and

1 | WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl resigned from the Illinois State Senate | ||||||
2 | in 2010 to spend more time with his family; he was a | ||||||
3 | philanthropist and contributed to numerous charities in his | ||||||
4 | community for many years; he was known for his integrity, | ||||||
5 | sincerity, loving heart, and kind soul; he was the rock of his | ||||||
6 | family and a loyal friend and trusted teacher; and

7 | WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl was preceded in death by his daughter, | ||||||
8 | Teresa Dahl-Taylor; his parents; his sisters, DeLoris Hanna, | ||||||
9 | Darlene Madson, and Carol Christenson; and his brother, George | ||||||
10 | Dahl; and

11 | WHEREAS, Sen. Dahl is survived by his wife, Deb; his | ||||||
12 | children, Kimberley Dahl, Ronald (Angela) Dahl, Sherry | ||||||
13 | Wilkinson, and Deborah Dahl; his stepchildren, Jeremy (April) | ||||||
14 | McIntosh and Samantha (Chris) Reum; his sister, Dorothy Gesme; | ||||||
15 | 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three | ||||||
16 | great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | former Illinois State Senator Gary Glenn Dahl and extend our | ||||||
20 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
21 | and loved him; and be it further
