SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
to learn of the death of Katherine C. Schultz of Woodstock, who
passed away on March 12, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz was born in Woodstock to Emery
and Glenna (Francisco) Cross on October 5, 1941; she married
Donald Schultz on June 18, 1960, and he preceded her in death
on May 2, 2011; she then married Paul Laudick on November 8,
2013; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz began her career at the McHenry
County Court House in the County Clerk's Office on October 16,
1959; she was first elected county clerk on December 1, 1990,
and she continued serving in that role until she retired on
November 29, 2014; under her leadership, McHenry County became
the first large county to use optical voting machines, and she
was recognized for her research and implementation by the
Illinois House of Representatives; she served on many
committees and was proud of bringing electronic voting to
McHenry County; she was named County Clerk of the Year by the
Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders in 2011;
she was the only county employee to serve for over 50 years and
was recognized for this achievement by the Illinois General
Assembly, which noted she was responsible for improving the

transparency, efficiency, and integrity of McHenry County
elections; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz loved bowling and golfing; she
was an avid reader; she also loved to travel, and she visited
every U.S. state except for Hawaii, Washington, and Oregon;
she was loved and will be missed; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz was preceded in death by her
parents; her husband, Donald; her brothers, Emery and Rick
Cross; her daughter, Cynthia Swan; and her granddaughter,
Tonya Guercio; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz is survived by her husband,
Paul; her son, Timothy (Tammy) Schultz; her grandchildren,
Bobbi Sennett and Katherine Paige Schultz; her brother, Glenn
(Sharon) Cross; her sisters, Dodie Streit and Peggy (Dale)
Joosten; and her stepchildren and step-grandchildren;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Katherine C. Schultz and extend our sincere condolences to her
family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Katherine Schultz as an expression
of our deepest sympathy.
