1 | SENATE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Katherine C. Schultz of Woodstock, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on March 12, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz was born in Woodstock to Emery | ||||||
6 | and Glenna (Francisco) Cross on October 5, 1941; she married | ||||||
7 | Donald Schultz on June 18, 1960, and he preceded her in death | ||||||
8 | on May 2, 2011; she then married Paul Laudick on November 8, | ||||||
9 | 2013; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz began her career at the McHenry | ||||||
11 | County Court House in the County Clerk's Office on October 16, | ||||||
12 | 1959; she was first elected county clerk on December 1, 1990, | ||||||
13 | and she continued serving in that role until she retired on | ||||||
14 | November 29, 2014; under her leadership, McHenry County became | ||||||
15 | the first large county to use optical voting machines, and she | ||||||
16 | was recognized for her research and implementation by the | ||||||
17 | Illinois House of Representatives; she served on many | ||||||
18 | committees and was proud of bringing electronic voting to | ||||||
19 | McHenry County; she was named County Clerk of the Year by the | ||||||
20 | Illinois Association of County Clerks and Recorders in 2011; | ||||||
21 | she was the only county employee to serve for over 50 years and | ||||||
22 | was recognized for this achievement by the Illinois General | ||||||
23 | Assembly, which noted she was responsible for improving the |

1 | transparency, efficiency, and integrity of McHenry County | ||||||
2 | elections; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz loved bowling and golfing; she | ||||||
4 | was an avid reader; she also loved to travel, and she visited | ||||||
5 | every U.S. state except for Hawaii, Washington, and Oregon; | ||||||
6 | she was loved and will be missed; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz was preceded in death by her | ||||||
8 | parents; her husband, Donald; her brothers, Emery and Rick | ||||||
9 | Cross; her daughter, Cynthia Swan; and her granddaughter, | ||||||
10 | Tonya Guercio; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Katherine Schultz is survived by her husband, | ||||||
12 | Paul; her son, Timothy (Tammy) Schultz; her grandchildren, | ||||||
13 | Bobbi Sennett and Katherine Paige Schultz; her brother, Glenn | ||||||
14 | (Sharon) Cross; her sisters, Dodie Streit and Peggy (Dale) | ||||||
15 | Joosten; and her stepchildren and step-grandchildren; | ||||||
16 | therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
19 | Katherine C. Schultz and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
21 | further
