2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of
U.S. District Judge James B. Moran of | ||||||
4 | Evanston, who passed away on April 21, 2009; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, James Moran was born in Evanston; he grew up on | ||||||
6 | Michigan's Upper Peninsula and attended the University of | ||||||
7 | Michigan on a Pepsi-Cola scholarship; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, James Moran served as a United States Army | ||||||
9 | sergeant in Korea before graduating magna cum laude from | ||||||
10 | Harvard Law School in 1957; after law school, he worked as a | ||||||
11 | law clerk for J. Edward Lumbard of the 2nd Circuit U.S. Court | ||||||
12 | of Appeals in New York; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, After his return to Evanston, James Moran served | ||||||
14 | in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1965 to 1966; he | ||||||
15 | then represented Evanston's 3rd Ward on the Evanston City | ||||||
16 | Council from 1971 to 1975; in 1979, he was appointed to serve | ||||||
17 | as a U.S. District Judge by President Jimmy Carter; and

18 | WHEREAS, James Moran served as chief judge for the Northern | ||||||
19 | District of Illinois from 1990 to 1995; he continued to hear | ||||||
20 | cases until late 2008; and

1 | WHEREAS, James Moran was preceded in death by his second | ||||||
2 | wife, Nancy; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, James Moran is survived by his widow, Janet Remen; | ||||||
4 | his son, John; his daughters, Jennifer, Sarah, and Polly; his | ||||||
5 | step-children with his second wife, Katie Tucker Trippi, | ||||||
6 | Cynthia Tucker, Laura Tucker Giancreco, and Michael Tucker; his | ||||||
7 | widow's children, Susan King, Carol Remen, Peggy Tarkington, | ||||||
8 | Lee Remen, and Tom Remen; his sisters, Nancy Larson, Susan | ||||||
9 | Schram, and Martha Thompson; and his 30 grandchildren and | ||||||
10 | step-grandchildren; therefore, be it

11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | ||||||
12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | ||||||
13 | his family and friends, the passing of U.S. District Judge | ||||||
14 | James B. Moran; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to the family of James Moran as an expression of our | ||||||
17 | sympathy.
