Bill Title: Amends the Chicago Teacher Article of the Illinois Pension Code. Provides that a retired teacher may be re-employed as a teacher on a temporary and non-annual basis or on an hourly basis without loss of pension, so long as the person does not accept more than $10,000 in gross compensation for that re-employment in a school year. Requires the pensioner to notify the Fund and the Board of Education of his or her intention to accept re-employment. Requires the Board of Education to certify the pensioner's status and compensation to the Fund. Requires the Board of the Fund to adopt rules for implementation. Amends the State Mandates Act to require implementation without reimbursement. Effective immediately.

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 3597, AS AMENDED, | ||||||
3 | in Section 5, by replacing the first grammatical paragraph of | ||||||
4 | subsection (c-5) of Section 17-149 with the following: | ||||||
5 | " (c-5) The service retirement pension shall not be | ||||||
6 | cancelled
in the case of a service retirement pensioner who is
| ||||||
7 | re-employed as a teacher on a temporary and non-annual basis or | ||||||
8 | on an hourly basis, so long as the person (1) does not work as a | ||||||
9 | teacher for compensation on more than 100 days in a school year | ||||||
10 | and (2) does not accept gross compensation for such | ||||||
11 | re-employment in a school year in excess of $30,000 or, in the | ||||||
12 | case of a person who retires with at least 5 years of service | ||||||
13 | as a principal, the daily rate normally paid to retired | ||||||
14 | principals. These limitations apply only to school years that | ||||||
15 | begin on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act of | ||||||
16 | the 97th General Assembly. Such re-employment does not require | ||||||
17 | contributions, result in service credit, or constitute active | ||||||
18 | membership in the Fund. ".
