2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Margaret | ||||||
4 | Louise Moore of Cairo, who passed away on November 14, 2014; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Margaret Moore was born in Louisville, Kentucky on | ||||||
7 | June 30, 1925 to Clarence, Sr. and Era Viola (nee Netherland) | ||||||
8 | Shelton; she attended public schools in Mississippi, where she | ||||||
9 | participated in girls track and, at one time, held the state | ||||||
10 | records for broad jumping and one for one of the short track | ||||||
11 | races; she graduated from Cairo Junior/Senior High School and | ||||||
12 | earned Bachelor of Science, Masters, and Doctorate degees from | ||||||
13 | Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale; she married | ||||||
14 | James Frederick Moore on October 28, 1944 in New Orleans, | ||||||
15 | Louisiana at Seventh & Camp Church of Christ; and

16 | WHEREAS, Margaret Moore retired from the Harrisburg School | ||||||
17 | System on June 1, 1994; as an employee of the Harrisburg Public | ||||||
18 | Schools, she was able to secure a cable TV channel for the | ||||||
19 | school at no cost; she secured the Texas Tie-in Distant | ||||||
20 | Learning Program, also at no cost to the school; she had input | ||||||
21 | on the location of the libraries at the Eastside and Westside | ||||||
22 | Elementary Schools and she was involved with moving the public | ||||||
23 | library from Church Street to its present location and updating |

1 | the library from a collection of books to its current facility | ||||||
2 | that includes computers, a children's area, and up-to-date | ||||||
3 | services; she also was a part-time instructor at SIU; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Margaret Moore, along with her husband, | ||||||
5 | grandchildren, and elderly parents traveled to all 50 states, | ||||||
6 | all Canadian provinces, most Mexican states, Europe, China, | ||||||
7 | Russia, Australia, New Zealand, the Fiji Islands, and South | ||||||
8 | America; she was a member of the First Baptist Church in | ||||||
9 | Harrisburg, Daughters of the American Revolution, and served | ||||||
10 | several non-profit organizations to help others; she was a 4-H | ||||||
11 | and Girl Scout leader and each year she had 4-H members | ||||||
12 | successfully competing at the Illinois State Fair; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Margaret Moore was preceded in death by her | ||||||
14 | parents; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Margaret Moore is survived by her husband of 70 | ||||||
16 | years, James; her son, Forrest (Elizabeth) Moore; her | ||||||
17 | daughters, Marsha (Al) Cole and Cheryl (Mark) Bradley; her 5 | ||||||
18 | grandchildren; and her 6 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| ||||||
19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
20 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we mourn the passing of Margaret Louise Moore, and extend our | ||||||
22 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew |

1 | and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
3 | presented to the family of Margaret Moore as an expression of | ||||||
4 | our deepest sympathy.
