2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Peg Kopec on being | ||||||
4 | selected as a member of the 2016 class of the National | ||||||
5 | Federation of
State High School Association (NFHS) Hall of | ||||||
6 | Fame; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec coached 42 seasons of volleyball for the | ||||||
8 | Spartans of St. Francis High School in
Wheaton; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec taught her athletes lessons about hard | ||||||
10 | work, dedication, and accountability that
will continue to | ||||||
11 | serve them throughout their lives; she embodies what a high | ||||||
12 | school coach should be; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec consistently built strong teams that | ||||||
14 | worked together to achieve remarkable
accomplishments; she | ||||||
15 | fostered a love of volleyball in her athletes that led to over | ||||||
16 | 90 of them playing at the
collegiate level; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec and her teams won 84% of their games and | ||||||
18 | she amassed a
career record of 1,238 wins, 229 losses, and two | ||||||
19 | ties; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec is the winningest coach of any sport in |

1 | Illinois High School Association
history; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec coached the St. Francis Spartans to 12 | ||||||
3 | State championships overall, concluding
with four consecutive | ||||||
4 | State championships from 2012 to 2015; and

5 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec is only the eighth Illinois High School | ||||||
6 | Association coach enshrined in the NFHS Hall of Fame and the | ||||||
7 | first
female coach; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec's career began in 1972 and concluded | ||||||
9 | with her retirement in November of 2015; her accolades include | ||||||
10 | induction into the Illinois Coaches Association Hall of Fame, | ||||||
11 | being named Coach of the Year by both the National High School | ||||||
12 | Coaches Association and the NFHS, and being selected to the | ||||||
13 | Chicago Sky's Title IX Team in 2012; and

14 | WHEREAS, Peg Kopec will be honored at an enshrinement | ||||||
15 | ceremony banquet on July 2, 2016 as part of the 2016 NFHS | ||||||
16 | Summer Meeting in Reno, Nevada; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | congratulate Peg Kopec on being selected as a member of the | ||||||
20 | 2016 class of the National Federation of
State High School | ||||||
21 | Association Hall of Fame; and be it further
