| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The City of Neoga began a citywide beautification | ||||||
| 3 | project three years ago to make
the community a more beautiful | ||||||
| 4 | place to live; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Residents began planting flowers, pulling weeds, | ||||||
| 6 | and picking up trash on city
clean-up days as part of the | ||||||
| 7 | beautification process; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Citizens strongly supported the creation of a | ||||||
| 9 | veterans memorial in addition to
placing memorial signs around | ||||||
| 10 | the city honoring current military personnel; a committee was | ||||||
| 11 | formed to research, design, and fund the new memorial; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The chosen design for the memorial included a | ||||||
| 13 | walking path design with handicap accessible walkways
between | ||||||
| 14 | granite tablets, etched with the names of more than 1000 | ||||||
| 15 | veterans dating back to the
Civil War; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Over the course of two years, volunteers were able | ||||||
| 17 | to raise $62,000 to build the
memorial by holding various | ||||||
| 18 | fundraisers, including fish frys, bake sales, cookouts, | ||||||
| 19 | raffles, Jeep
runs, 50/50 drawings, breakfasts, t-shirts, sign | ||||||
| 20 | and flag sales, and aluminum can collections; and

| 1 | WHEREAS, In addition to the support received from the | ||||||
| 2 | veterans who served this great country, the memorial project | ||||||
| 3 | would not have been possible without the support of many | ||||||
| 4 | organizations, including the Neoga Veterans Memorial | ||||||
| 5 | Committee, the Neoga
City Council, the Neoga Park Board, the | ||||||
| 6 | engineering expertise of Milano and Grunloh, Bartel's
| ||||||
| 7 | Construction, Pyramid Marble, the local Girl Scouts, and the | ||||||
| 8 | Modern Woodmen Group, and numerous area businesses and | ||||||
| 9 | community members who generously donated to the fundraising | ||||||
| 10 | efforts; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 12 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 13 | congratulate the City of
Neoga on its successful effort to | ||||||
| 14 | build a veterans memorial; and be it further
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That we declare May 25, 2016 as Neoga
Veterans | ||||||
| 16 | Memorial Committee Day in the State of Illinois; and be it | ||||||
| 17 | further

| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the Neoga Veterans
Memorial Committee.
