2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Venola | ||||||
4 | Mary Lowery, who passed away on March 23, 2016; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Venola Lowery was born on August 13, 1952 in | ||||||
6 | Morgan City, Mississippi; her parents were George W. and Alice | ||||||
7 | M. Davis; she married Charles Lowery in 1950; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, In 1943, Venola Lowery and her family moved to | ||||||
9 | Chicago, where she attended Douglas Elementary and Wendell | ||||||
10 | Phillips High School; in 1946, she became a member of Pleasant | ||||||
11 | Green Missionary Baptist Church; during her time at the church, | ||||||
12 | she was a member of the Matrons Auxiliary (later known as the | ||||||
13 | Steven C. Chew Mission Circle); and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Venola Lowery was a homemaker who was well known | ||||||
15 | for her lemon cream pies; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Venola Lowery was an active member and participant | ||||||
17 | in the McCray Family Reunion Chicago Chapter; she was also a | ||||||
18 | member of the 7300 S. Eberhart Block Club and the Park Manor | ||||||
19 | Neighbors Association; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Venola Lowery enjoyed spending time with her |

1 | family, traveling to family reunions, and decorating at | ||||||
2 | Christmastime; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Venola Lowery was preceded in death by her | ||||||
4 | parents; her daughter, Charlestine; and her siblings, George | ||||||
5 | Jr. and Hyman; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Venola Lowery is survived by her son, Tony | ||||||
7 | (Montrice); her grandchildren, Marlon Porter, Jihan Strange, | ||||||
8 | Marvin Porter, and Madison Lowery; her great-grandchildren, | ||||||
9 | Michael Cox Jr., Jayda Cox, Sanyah Lowery, and Christa | ||||||
10 | Childress; her sisters, Mary Blake and Mary Corrine (Benjamin) | ||||||
11 | Perkins; her brother, John Moore; her nieces, Ereatha Clayborn, | ||||||
12 | Alicia Harris, Dianna Davis-Small, Tonie Payne, and Alicia | ||||||
13 | Junkins; her nephews, Anthony Davis, Alvin Harris III, George | ||||||
14 | Davis III, and Quincy Davis; her sister-in-law, Janet Davis; | ||||||
15 | and her many great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins, | ||||||
16 | including her oldest and dearest cousin, Mabel Fields; | ||||||

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
19 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
20 | we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of | ||||||
21 | Venola Mary Lowery; and be it further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
