2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former | ||||||
4 | Chicago radio personality Larry Lujack, who passed away on | ||||||
5 | December 18, 2013; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Larry Lujack hit the Chicago airwaves in 1967 and | ||||||
7 | brought with him a "crusty cantankerousness" that is credited | ||||||
8 | with influencing present-day radio personalities such as Rush | ||||||
9 | Limbaugh and Howard Stern; in 2000, he was approvingly called | ||||||
10 | "a crabby coot dropping PG-rated acid bombs at a snail's pace" | ||||||
11 | by the Chicago Sun-Times; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Known as "Uncle Lar" or "Superjock", Larry Lujack, | ||||||
13 | first at WCFL-AM and later at WLS-AM, spent 20 years spinning | ||||||
14 | records and spouting opinions; his frequent targets were the | ||||||
15 | very albums he was playing, the very stations he was working | ||||||
16 | for, and various rival D.J.s; he achieved notoriety with his | ||||||
17 | segments "Klunk Letter of the Day", the "Cheap and Trashy | ||||||
18 | Showbiz Report", and "Animal Stories" television segment, | ||||||
19 | which was acknowledged by David Letterman as influencing his | ||||||
20 | "Stupid Pet Tricks" television segment; and
| ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Larry Lujack's honors include membership in the | ||||||
22 | Illinois Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame and the National |

| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Larry Lujack was born Larry Lee Blankenburg in | ||||||
3 | 1940 in Quasqueton, Iowa; at age 18, he joined KCID-AM in | ||||||
4 | Caldwell, Idaho and adopted the surname of his idol, Chicago | ||||||
5 | Bears quarterback Johnny Lujack; after working at various radio | ||||||
6 | stations Idaho and Washington, he made his way to Chicago; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Larry Lujack was preceded in death by his son, | ||||||
8 | John; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Larry Lujack is survived by his wife, Judith (nee | ||||||
10 | Seguin); his children, Anthony Lujack and Linda | ||||||
11 | Lujack-Shirley; his step-son, Taber Seguin; and his 2 | ||||||
12 | grandchildren; therefore, be it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
14 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
15 | we mourn the passing of Larry Lujack, and extend our sincere | ||||||
16 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
17 | him; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Larry Lujack as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy.
