SENATE RESOLUTION
REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO EXAMINE AND PROVIDE A SAFE WAY FOR PEDESTRIANS TO CROSS HAWAII BELT ROAD.
WHEREAS, the intersection of Hawaii Belt Road and Lotus Blossom Lane on the island of Hawaii is routinely crossed by pedestrians; and
WHEREAS, there is currently no crosswalk at the intersection of Hawaii Belt Road and Lotus Blossom Lane on the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, at the intersection, there is regular bidirectional, vehicular traffic making pedestrian crossing unsafe; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2020, that the Department of Transportation is urged to:
(1) Study the traffic patterns within a one-half mile radius of the intersection of Hawaii Belt Road and Lotus Blossom Lane on the island of Hawaii and the associated dangers of a pedestrian crossing Hawaii Belt Road in the same area;
(2) Provide a plan that will create a safe way for pedestrians to cross Hawaii Belt Road in the designated area; and
(3) Submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2021.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Department of Transportation and Mayor of the County of Hawaii.
