SENATE RESOLUTION
urging the mayors and the Governor to collaborate on a pilot program to give property and other tax relief to senior citizens who volunteer their time and talents to assist government offices in the state of hawaii.
WHEREAS, many senior citizens in Hawaii living on fixed incomes face a number of economic pressures; and
WHEREAS, property tax burdens are often felt the most by those living on fixed incomes; and
WHEREAS, able bodied senior citizens, although no longer part of the workforce, have many talents to offer to the people and State of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, volunteering is a great way for able bodied senior citizens to share their talents, knowledge, and experiences to benefit the community; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2015, that the Mayors and the Governor of the State of Hawaii are urged to collaborate on a pilot program to give property and other tax relief to senior citizens who volunteer their time and talents to assist government offices in the State of Hawaii; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Mayor of the City and County of Honolulu, Mayor of the County of Hawaii, Mayor of the County of Maui, Mayor of the County of Kauai, Executive Office on Aging, City and County of Honolulu Elderly Affairs Division, Hawaii County Office on Aging, Maui County Office on Aging, County of Kauai Agency on Elderly Affairs, and members of the Hawaii State Legislature Kupuna Caucus.
