SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
requesting the governor to rename a section of kapule highway in the county of Kaua‘i as the kaua‘i veterans memorial highway.
WHEREAS, military veterans have protected and sustained liberty, freedom, and the American way of life for every citizen of this country since the founding of the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, the dedication and sacrifice of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who have courageously served this country must be honored and not forgotten; and
WHEREAS, the sacrifices of those members of the United States Armed Forces who have fallen, been wounded, or are unaccounted for in conflicts with those who would infringe on this country's freedoms and liberties, must be honored and not forgotten; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that the State of Hawaii recognize and honor all veterans of the United States Armed Forces in a tangible, permanent manner that is a constant reminder of their sacrifice, dedication, and service; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, the House of Representatives concurring, that the Governor is requested to take all necessary action to rename and designate the section of Kapule Highway from Rice Street to Ahukini Road in the County of Kaua‘i as the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Highway; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is requested to erect and maintain the appropriate signage for the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Highway; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the renaming and designation of any section of Kapule Highway as the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Highway shall not adversely impact any state or federal funding for Kapule Highway; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Director of Transportation, Kaua‘i County Council, Mayor of the County of Kaua‘i, and Director of Veterans' Services.
