A BILL FOR AN ACT
Making an appropriation to the state foundation on culture and the arts.
BE IT
ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Hawaii law requires that one per cent of the appropriations for the construction or renovation of state buildings be transferred to the works of art special fund. The works of art special fund may be used for integrated works of art projects as part of new construction which include:
(1) Costs related to the acquisition of works of art, including any consultant or staff services required to carry out the art in public places and relocatable works of art program; and
(2) Site modifications, display, and interpretive work necessary for the exhibition of works of art.
Several departments and agencies have planned or are planning major capital improvement projects that will require the integration of works of art projects. These include:
(1) The University of Hawaii system: University of Hawaii, West Oahu and Windward community college;
(2) Department of transportation, Ellison Onizuka Kona international airport; and
(3) Hawaii public housing authority, Mayor Wright Homes.
The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds out of the works of art special fund to enable the incorporation of works of art projects into the major capital improvement projects that have been planned or are being planned.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the works of art special fund the sum of $991,777 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 for the integration of works of art projects into several major capital improvement projects.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the State foundation on culture and the arts for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2019.
