A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to human services.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 346, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§346-    Homeless; housing-related services; supportive services; medicaid budget.  (a)  Twenty per cent of the department's annual medicaid budget shall be used for housing-related services and other permanent supportive services.

     (b)  The activities and services required under subsection (a) shall be used to assist homeless individuals with mental illness or substance use disorders.

     (c)  The department shall seek a waiver pursuant to section 1115 of the Social Security Act, title 42 United States Code section 1315, and other approvals from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that may be necessary to implement the requirements of this section."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval; provided that section 1 shall take effect upon approval of the section 1115 waiver by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
