A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to health care professionals.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 451D, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§451D-      Continuing medical education; unique health issues.  (a)  The respective boards of every health care profession covered under this chapter shall require their licensees to take an annual continuing medical education course on health issues that are unique to the State, which shall include reportable infectious diseases such as dengue fever, zika virus, chikungunya virus, leptospirosis, and rat lungworm disease.  The course shall focus on symptoms, diagnosis, testing, treatment, and reporting requirements.

     (b)  The department of health shall develop the course in consultation with the Hawaii medical board, who shall review the course content annually and recommend any changes or updates to the content.  The respective boards shall offer the course to their licensees and may also determine the mode of its delivery, including the use of online services.

     (c)  The continuing medical education requirement established under this section shall be in addition to any other continuing education requirements that are applicable to the health care professional."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
