A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO PUBLIC WORKS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  The purpose of this Act is to ensure that Hawaii's wage and hour law is strictly enforced on public construction projects by creating additional labor law enforcement specialist IV positions within the department of labor and industrial relations to enforce Hawaii's wage and hour law and appropriating funds for the positions.

     SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $200,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2014-2015 for the establishment of two full-time equivalent (2.00 FTE) permanent labor law enforcement specialist IV positions in the wage standards division of the department of labor and industrial relations to enforce chapter 104, Hawaii Revised Statutes, for employees on public works projects.

     The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of labor and industrial relations for the purposes of this Act.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2014.
