A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

relating to ENERGY EFFICIENCY.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 196, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§196-    Use of motion sensor technology in hotel rooms.  (a)  No building permit shall be issued for any new construction, major renovation, or retrofit of an existing building of a hotel that does not include the use of motion sensor technology in the hotel rooms.

     (b)  For the purpose of this section:

     "Major renovation" means any significant altering in any way of one or more facilities or structural components of a hotel facility; and

     "Motion sensor technology" means technology that uses motion sensor devices or other technology to automatically control a building's lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems based on the presence or absence of people."

     SECTION 2.  This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, penalties that were incurred, and proceedings that were begun before its effective date.

     SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2011.
