A BILL FOR AN ACT
RELATING TO HEALTH CARE ASSISTANCE.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Chapter 346, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:
"§346- Health care premium assistance. (a) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the department shall provide health care premium assistance for any health insurance costs assessed against an individual as follows:
(1) One hundred per
cent of health insurance costs for an individual whose family income is at or
below the federal poverty level for a family of applicable size;
(2) Seventy-five
per cent of health insurance costs for an individual whose family income is
greater than one hundred per cent but less than or equal to one hundred fifty
per cent of the federal poverty level for a family of applicable size;
(3) Fifty per cent
of health insurance costs for an individual whose family income is greater than
one hundred fifty per cent but less than or equal to two hundred per cent of
the federal poverty level for a family of applicable size; and
(4) Twenty-five per
cent of health insurance costs for an individual whose family income is greater
than two hundred per cent but less than or equal to three hundred per cent of
the federal poverty level for a family of applicable size.
(b) The director shall adopt rules pursuant to
chapter 91 for the purposes of this section."
SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2050.
