HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

honoring the hawaii alliance of the boys and girls clubs.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment where positive role models inspire Hawaii's youth; and

 

     WHEREAS, a subsidiary of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs has been operating in Hawaii since 1976; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs provides services to thousands of Hawaii youths each year, many who come from disadvantaged circumstances; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs currently operates multiple clubs where members can access a multitude of programs and services, and membership costs only $10.00 a year; and

 

     WHEREAS, the mission of the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs is to "inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens", by creating a safe place for kids to grow, providing mentoring by professionally-trained staff and caring volunteers, nurturing character development and life-enhancing skills, and providing hope and opportunities to Hawaii's youth; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs operates clubhouses and outreach sites and provides guidance-oriented character development programs for children 7-17 years old, and key programs emphasize character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; culture and the arts; and sports, fitness, and recreation; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs believes that building good character is its strongest strategy; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Health and Life Skills program of Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs specifically tackles today's critical issues, steering Hawaii's youth away from violence, drug abuse, obesity, and teen pregnancy; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Arts and Culture program of the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs encourages members to express themselves, appreciate other cultures, and develop their creativity; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs program on Education and Career Development provides members with opportunities for career exploration and academic enrichment; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Sports, Fitness, and Recreation program of the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs helps members to improve their fitness levels by promoting stress reduction and the positive use of leisure time, instilling an appreciation of the environment, and building good social skills; and

 

     WHEREAS, the House of Representatives applauds the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs for inspiring Hawaii's youth to become ambitious, responsible, well-rounded, and productive citizens; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2010, that this body hereby recognizes and commends the Hawaii Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs for its strong commitment and many years of service to the youth of Hawaii.
