A RESOLUTION


Commending the board members of Crime Victims Advocacy Council, Inc., and recognizing the organization on the occasion of its 20th annual memorial service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Crime Victims Advocacy Council, Inc., (CVAC) makes a significant impact in the lives of crime victims by helping to facilitate the healing process; and

WHEREAS, CVAC seeks to help crime victims cope with their suffering and pain by providing aid throughout a crime victim's healing process through support groups, community education, crime prevention, raising community consciousness, and serving as an advocate for victims' rights; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1989, CVAC has diligently and conscientiously worked to protect the victims of crime through its innovative programs and initiatives; and

WHEREAS, the success of CVAC can be attributed to its passionate board members President Mark Bullman, Executive Director Claudia Bradley, and board members and crime survivors Claudia Barnes and Kellie Wiggins; and

WHEREAS, CVAC holds an annual memorial service that honors and remembers the precious lives that have been lost due to crime; and

WHEREAS, this year's 20th annual event will be held on April 18, 2010, at 7 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Decatur; and

WHEREAS, the memorial service will feature a memorial wall of many murdered in Metropolitan Atlanta from 1991 to 2009, and those in attendance are invited to light a candle in honor of a loved one who has been lost; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the board members of Crime Victims Advocacy Council, Inc., for their dedicated efforts in improving the lives of countless crime victims and recognize the organization on the occasion of its 20th annual memorial service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Crime Victims Advocacy Council, Inc.
