A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Chapter 1 of Title 35 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions for law enforcement officers and agencies, so as to mandate certain conduct when a person is reported missing; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Chapter 1 of Title 35 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions for law enforcement officers and agencies, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"35-1-18.
Notwithstanding any law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, if a family member reports a person missing, and a law enforcement officer locates the missing person's vehicle and the missing person is not inside of the vehicle but the vehicle is running, the law enforcement officer shall report this information to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and the bureau shall commence an investigation to locate the missing person."

SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
