RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mrs. Margaret "Bunny" Thomas Sullivan; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mrs. Margaret "Bunny" Thomas Sullivan on February 12, 2009;
and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Sullivan was born on November 9, 1933, in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, a
beloved daughter of Dr. Russell Thomas and Margaret Camp Thomas;
and
WHEREAS,
raised in Americus, Georgia, Mrs. Sullivan attended Stephens College and earned
a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
a woman of deep and abiding faith, Mrs. Sullivan was an active member of St.
Paul United Methodist Church, where she devoted her time serving as a trustee,
on the administrative board, and as a member of the Miller Wilson Class and
Mission Committee; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Sullivan was an active civic leader, participating in United Methodist
Women, the Muscogee County Medical Society and Medical Association of Georgia
auxiliaries, the Columbus Symphony Women's Association, and was a member of the
board of Columbus Technical College, the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home, and the
Rosalyn Carter Institute; and
WHEREAS,
this kindhearted woman gave back to the Columbus community in countless ways,
including volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Columbus Hospice, serving as a
founding member of the Columbus Botanical Gardens, and contributing to the
Historic Columbus Foundation; and
WHEREAS,
Mrs. Sullivan was united in love and marriage to the late Dr. James H. Sullivan
in June of 1955, and the two were happily married for 53 years and blessed with
four children, Margaret, Nancy, James, and Elizabeth; and
WHEREAS,
known for her great hospitality and warmth, Mrs. Sullivan leaves behind her
loving children and their families, as well as five grandchildren who will
always hold dear the memories of wonderful times shared with her;
and
WHEREAS,
she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and, by the example she made of
her life, she made this world a better place in which to live.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby
joins in honoring the life and memory of Mrs. Margaret "Bunny" Thomas Sullivan
and expressing its appreciation of her many contributions to her community and
the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mrs. Margaret "Bunny" Thomas Sullivan.
