A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ms. Jennifer Herring; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Jennifer Herring has served a full two year term as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and CVB; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Ms. Herring, the Chamber's largest fundraising event, Six Gap Century and Three Gap Fifty Bike Ride, has grown from 1,600 riders in 2006 to 2,300 riders in 2008; and

WHEREAS, during Ms. Herring's tenure, the Board of Directors was expanded from 12 directors to 21 in order to increase board representation for tourism; and

WHEREAS, this year, the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and CVB held its first Celtic music festival, which was so successful it is slated to become an annual event; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Herring was instrumental in her assistance in recruiting a new President and CEO of the Chamber and CVB and served as acting President during this period of transition; and

WHEREAS, due to the guidance of Ms. Herring, both United States Senators from Georgia, Senator Johnny Isakson and Senator Saxby Chambliss, visited Dahlonega for an Eggs and Issues Breakfast event; and

WHEREAS, under Ms. Herring's management, Lumpkin County became an entrepreneur-friendly community; and

WHEREAS, she played a vital role in the organization of the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce's free job fair that was held for the 366 displaced employees of Mowhawk Industries; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Herring has proven herself to be an effective leader that has greatly impacted tourism and the economic development in Dahlonega and Lumpkin County during her tenure with the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and CVB.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in commending Ms. Jennifer Herring on her leadership of the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and CVB and thank her for her great public service to Dahlonega, Lumpkin County, and the State of Georgia.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Jennifer Herring.
