A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Article 2 of Chapter 12 of Title 45 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to powers and duties of the Governor generally, so as to provide that the Governor shall be authorized to take such action as necessary to cause the State of Georgia and the Southern States Energy Board to conduct an inventory of oil and natural gas in the coastal areas of Georgia and investigate the possibilities of exploration and drilling; to provide for related matters; to provide an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
Article 2 of Chapter 12 of Title 45 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to powers and duties of the Governor generally, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"45-12-41.
The Governor is authorized as soon as is permitted by the federal government to take such action as necessary to cause the State of Georgia and the Southern States Energy Board, in partnership with selected companies and industries, to conduct an offshore inventory of oil and natural gas in the coastal areas of this state and to investigate the possibility of exploration and drilling for oil and natural gas in such areas."

SECTION 2.
This Act shall become effective upon its approval by the Governor or upon its becoming law without such approval.

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
