1	House Resolution
2	A resolution recognizing the outstanding achievements of
3	Palm Beach Atlantic University, a recipient of the 2009
4	President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll
5	with Distinction Award.

7	WHEREAS, it is essential that colleges and universities
8	establish programs promoting service in the community, which not
9	only ensures that communities are helped but also provides each
10	student with the knowledge and abilities required to be
11	successful and compassionate in his or her future endeavors, and
12	WHEREAS, the Palm Beach Atlantic University Workship
13	Program, which was instituted in 1968, completed its two-
14	millionth service hour this past semester, and
15	WHEREAS, the President's Higher Education Community Service
16	Honor Roll with Distinction Award is the highest federal
17	recognition a college or university can receive for its
18	commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic
19	engagement, and members of the honor roll are chosen based on
20	scope and innovation of service projects as well as the
21	percentage of student participation in such service activities,
22	and
23	WHEREAS, the Corporation for National and Community Service
24	presented the 2009 President's Higher Education Community
25	Service Honor Roll with Distinction Award to Palm Beach Atlantic
26	University, a university that serves more than 3,200 students,
27	and
28	WHEREAS, Palm Beach Atlantic University and its Workship
29	Program are dedicated to improving the community and the
30	condition of its citizens, inspiring lifelong volunteerism,
31	teaching the value of teamwork, and creating a tradition of
32	caring, and
33	WHEREAS, the President's Higher Education Community Service
34	Honor Roll Program applauds this extraordinary institution and
35	raises awareness of its efforts among the community and other
36	schools, NOW, THEREFORE,

38	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
39	Florida:

41	That, on behalf of the residents of the great State of
42	Florida, the House of Representatives recognizes and
43	congratulates Palm Beach Atlantic University for being selected
44	by the Corporation for National and Community Service as a
45	member of the 2009 President's Higher Education Community
46	Service Honor Roll with Distinction.
