AN ACT REDUCING GRANTS FOR CERTAIN CANDIDATES UNDER THE CITIZENS' ELECTION PROGRAM.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 9-705 of the general statutes be amended to provide that if the only opponent of a participating major party candidate who is nominated for election to an office is an eligible minor party candidate, then such major party candidate shall receive: (1) One-third of the amount of the general election campaign grant if such minor party fails to qualify for a grant; (2) two-thirds of the amount of the general election campaign grant if such minor party qualifies to receive one-third of the amount of the general election campaign grant; and (3) the full amount of the general election campaign grant if such minor party qualifies to receive two-thirds of the amount of the general election campaign grant.

Statement of Purpose:

To reduce the amount of Citizens' Election Program grants to major party candidates whose only opposition is from a minor party.
