AN ACT CONCERNING WORK INCENTIVES FOR PERSONS RECEIVING TEMPORARY FAMILY ASSISTANCE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 17b-112 of the general statutes be amended to provide (1) an increase from one hundred per cent of the federal poverty level to one hundred fifty per cent of the federal poverty level of the amount a temporary family assistance recipient can earn and maintain benefits if employed within twenty-one months of receiving benefits, (2) an increase in benefits equal to the difference between wages or salary earned and one hundred fifty per cent of the federal poverty level for twelve months if a recipient is employed within twenty-one months of receiving benefits, (3) a one-time payment of one thousand dollars to any former recipient who exhausted benefits without securing employment if the recipient subsequently is employed, and (4) a state subsidy equaling the difference between what a recipient would earn in unemployment benefits and wages the recipient earns for a job that pays less than such benefits for the length of the applicable unemployment entitlement period.

Statement of Purpose:

To provide incentives for temporary family assistance recipients to become employed.
