AN ACT REQUIRING THE USE OF NATURAL ALTERNATIVES TO MAGNESIUM CHLORIDE FOR MELTING ICE ON STATE HIGHWAYS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective from passage) The Commissioner of Transportation, in consultation with the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection, shall develop and implement a plan to eliminate the use of magnesium chloride on any state highway, as defined in section 13a-1 of the general statutes. Such plan shall require the elimination of such use by not later than July 1, 2022, and provide for the use of natural alternatives to magnesium chloride for the purpose of melting ice on such state highways, as identified by the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
