AN ACT

 

Making an appropriation to the department of education for K‑3 reading intervention and remedial strategies.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1.  Appropriation; department of education; K‑3 reading intervention and remedial strategies

A.  The sum of $40,000,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2014-2015 to the department of education for distribution to school districts and charter schools to fund K‑3 reading intervention and remedial strategies.

B.  The monies appropriated pursuant to subsection A of this section shall be allocated to school districts and charter schools based on the number of third grade pupils in that school district or charter school whose performance level on the reading portion of the Arizona instrument to measure standards test or its successor test is classified as either approaching the standards or falls far below the standards.
