SENATE RESOLUTION 12

Recognizing the week of January 21- January 27, 2024, as National School Choice Week.

Whereas, Nationally, School Choice Week is being celebrated across 45 states, with thousands of events planned across all 50 states; and

Whereas, School Choice is recognized as the practice of allowing every family to choose the educational options that best fit their children's uniqueness in learning abilities; and

Whereas, In 2021, the West Virginia Legislature passed H.B. 2013, the Hope Scholarship Program, that enables every child statewide, K-12, access to funds for individual education expenses to obtain the best education possible; and

Whereas, These options include forms of learning such as traditional public schools to public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling; and

Whereas, West Virginia's Hope Scholarship Program has been applauded as allowing families the opportunity to be actively engaged in their children's education; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby recognizes the week of January 21 – January 27, 2024, as National School Choice Week; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Crescent Gallagher, Deputy State Director, Americans for Prosperity, West Virginia.
