WHEREAS, Rachel Grover, a librarian at Rocky Run Middle School, earned the 2023 Librarian of the Year Award from the Virginia Association of School Librarians for her innovative programs; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Grover previously worked as an elementary and middle school teacher and relished opportunities to weave material from different subjects into one cohesive and engaging lesson; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Grover became a librarian to collaborate with more teachers and students across different subject areas and promote critical thinking and creativity; and
WHEREAS, through a grant from the Asha-Jyothi Foundation, Rachel Grover created two makerspaces, the Inspiration Studio and the Tech Den, in the Rocky Run Middle School library to enhance the learning process and give students opportunities to explore passion projects; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Grover's Inspiration Studio offers supplies like cardboard and crafting materials, while the Tech Den is equipped with a green screen, podcasting equipment, and graphic design resources; and
WHEREAS, students can use Rachel Grover's makerspaces individually, with groups of friends, or as part of class lessons; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Grover has also volunteered her expertise to several school committees and has published articles in library journals like School Library Connection and Knowledge Quest, while presenting on library science topics at the district, state, and national levels; and
WHEREAS, throughout her career as an educator and librarian, Rachel Grover has demonstrated proactive leadership and a commitment to lifelong learning; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Rachel Grover hereby be commended on the occasion of her selection as the 2023 Librarian of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Librarians; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rachel Grover as an expression of the Senate of Virginia's admiration for her outstanding contributions to young people in Chantilly.
