WHEREAS, Jeffrey Martin Todd, a pillar of the Mount Vernon-Lee community in Northern Virginia, died on July 31, 2011; and WHEREAS, a longtime resident of Northern Virginia, Jeffrey "Jeff" Todd relocated to the area after graduating from high school in Williamsburg and attending the University of Connecticut; and WHEREAS, Jeff Todd grew up in a family involved in the restaurant business and eventually entered the industry himself, owning and operating three Roy Rogers Restaurants in the Mount Vernon-Lee community; and WHEREAS, a hardworking entrepreneur, Jeff Todd understood the importance of a vibrant local economy and through his extensive involvement with the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce worked to create an environment in which businesses could thrive; and WHEREAS, Jeff Todd loved his neighbors and community and abundantly shared his time and resources with a wide array of organizations, including police and fire departments, charities, nonprofits, and youth sports leagues; and WHEREAS, Jeff Todd provided valuable insight and guidance to the local community as a board member of Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services and United Community Ministries; and WHEREAS, an avid supporter of Mount Vernon High School athletics, Jeff Todd volunteered as an assistant coach with the football team, sponsored the annual Roy Rogers Bowl, and participated in the Mount Vernon Men of Vision and Purpose Program; and WHEREAS, the Mount Vernon-Lee Chamber of Commerce honored Jeff Todd for his extraordinary service with its 2010 Chamber Citizen Award; he also received a 2010 Corporate Citizen Award from United Community Ministries; and WHEREAS, possessed of a generous and humble heart, Jeff Todd made an important and lasting impact on countless individuals through his contributions to local institutions and organizations, helping make the Mount Vernon-Lee community a great place in which to live and work and inspiring others to follow in his footsteps; and WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Jeff Todd leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Becky; beloved daughters, Kimberly and Hannah; numerous other family members and friends; and the Mount Vernon-Lee community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a generous businessman, community leader, and respected citizen of the Commonwealth, Jeffrey Martin Todd; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jeffrey Martin Todd as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory. |
