WHEREAS, the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars baseball team capped off an outstanding 2014 season by winning the inaugural Virginia Machine Pitch tournament; and WHEREAS, the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars consist of a group of energetic and talented seven-year-old and eight-year-old boys who also won an earlier invitational machine pitch tournament that was held in Brookneal; the team's record for the invitational tournament was 4 - 1; and WHEREAS, during the double-elimination state tournament, which also was held in Brookneal from July 4 - 10, 2014, the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars team was undefeated; during the six-game event, the boys scored runs in the double digits in all but one game; and WHEREAS, Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars team member Dylan Hackett was awarded the state tournament's Batting Champion award for his batting average of .650; and WHEREAS, the members of the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars baseball team advanced to the World Series, held in Texarkana, Arkansas, July 18 - 20, 2014; the group played with skill and determination and returned home with many great memories; and WHEREAS, the hard-working members of the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars and the coaching staff received great support from their families, friends, and the entire Appomattox community as they advanced to the World Series; and WHEREAS, the members of the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars baseball team are Dylan Hackett, Peyton Garrett, Kyle Davis, Camden Perkins, Camden Joy, Camden Harrison, Reid Fanney, Gabe Nitti, Daniel McGhee, Otis Cartrett, Jack Wilkerson, and Colin Martin; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars baseball team hereby be commended for a stellar 2014 season and for winning the inaugural Virginia Machine Pitch tournament; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Davy Hackett, head coach of the Appomattox Machine Pitch All-Stars baseball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for the team's remarkable performance and best wishes for future success. |
