WHEREAS, Derrick Borlie finished his high school wrestling career at Millbrook High School in Winchester with a 2009 individual Group AA state championship win before an enthusiastic crowd at the Salem Civic Center; and WHEREAS, Derrick Borlie's win capped a perfect 48 - 0 season, the second consecutive season that he went undefeated and took home two state championship titles; and WHEREAS, on his way to consecutive state titles, Derrick Borlie won several tournament championships, three Northwest District and four Region II championships; he was also named a Fargo Junior National Championship runner-up and National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) senior national champion; and WHEREAS, Derrick Borlie earned national recognition with a #6 ranking in the 189-lb weight class by Wrestling USA Magazine and was ranked as the #60 recruit in the nation by Intermat; and WHEREAS, Derrick Borlie's entire high school wrestling career was marked by near total domination in every match he wrestled; he ended his high school career with an astounding 202 - 10 record; and WHEREAS, throughout a stellar high school career, Derrick Borlie was named an NHSCA High School All-American four times, a 2008 Super 32 Champion, the Winchester Star Wrestler of the Year twice, the 2009 Washington Post All Metro Wrestler of the Year, a 2009 USA Wrestling All American, and 2009 Asics All American Honorable Mention; and WHEREAS, a remarkable young man, Derrick Borlie excelled not only in wrestling but also in the classroom, graduating with a 3.40 cumulative grade point average; and WHEREAS, Derrick Borlie's outstanding success is due to his hard work, determination, and commitment to excellence, the support and coaching of Head Coach Chris Haines, and the support of his family; and WHEREAS, recruited by universities and colleges across the nation, Derrick Borlie chose to attend the University of Wisconsin and now continues his wrestling career with the Badgers; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Derrick Borlie be commended for his 2009 individual Group AA state championship win; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Derrick Borlie as an expression of the House of Delegates' congratulations and admiration for his outstanding high school wrestling career. |
