WHEREAS, Karl Wilkins, a respected barber, beloved pastor at The Mount at Suffolk church, and esteemed educator, was recently named the 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth; and
WHEREAS, Karl Wilkins has enjoyed an accomplished career as a barber and owner of Cut In His Image in Suffolk, providing exceptional hair care services to his customers for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, dating back to 2012, Karl Wilkins has given generously to his community by offering free haircuts and school supplies to students at the start of the school year, ensuring every young person feels confident and prepared as they embark on the new year; and
WHEREAS, Karl Wilkins heard the call to the ministry and went on to earn master's degrees in both theology and Christian education from Virginia Union University; and
WHEREAS, in 2018, Karl Wilkins assumed the pastorship of what is today The Mount at Suffolk, facilitating a smooth transition as the Mount Lebanon Baptist Church in Chesapeake expanded into Suffolk; and
WHEREAS, as a pastor, Karl Wilkins guides and unites his congregation through his impassioned sermons and motivates them to lead meaningful lives and to make a difference in their communities; and
WHEREAS, with an eye toward helping future generations, Karl Wilkins currently teaches the art of barbering to students at I.C. Norcom High School, offering them valuable professional skills that will foster opportunities for success; and
WHEREAS, Karl Wilkins' boundless commitment to his community has made a profound impact on countless lives and is an inspiration to all Virginians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Karl Wilkins hereby be commended for his legacy of service on the occasion of being named the 2024–2025 Teacher of the Year at I.C. Norcom High School; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karl Wilkins as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for his achievements.
