Celebrating the life of Charles Scott Marple.

WHEREAS, Charles Scott Marple, a beloved resident of Winchester who made numerous contributions to the community and inspired others through his courage, died on December 30, 2023; and

WHEREAS, born in Winchester in 2014, Charles "Charlie" Marple was a fourth-grade student at Indian Hollow Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Marple played baseball with the Winchester Wolves travel team, and he enjoyed spending time doing a wide range of activities in the great outdoors and watching Western shows and movies; and

WHEREAS, after being diagnosed with a rare cancer, Charlie Marple demonstrated exceptional kindness, courage, and positivity and developed strong bonds with members of the community; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Marple dreamed of becoming a law-enforcement officer and was deputized as an honorary sergeant with the Frederick County Sheriff's Office; he made lasting memories with his fellow deputies and was appointed as a school resource officer for Indian Hollow Elementary School alongside Deputy Derek Kniceley; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of his baseball skills, Charlie Marple was signed by the Shenandoah University Hornets as a five-star recruit; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Marple was also named the honorary manager of the James Wood High School volleyball team and served as the flagger at the start and finish lines of Winchester Speedway; and

WHEREAS, Charlie Marple will be fondly remembered by his parents, Scott and Stacy; his siblings, Dante, Kenneth, Hayleigh, Katilyn, and Brandi; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Charles Scott Marple, a beloved member of the Winchester community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Charles Scott Marple as an expression of the House of Delegates' respect for his memory.
