14102693D WHEREAS, Virginia's public school system was recently ranked number four in the nation by Education Week; and WHEREAS, Forbes magazine ranked Virginia number one on its annual list of Best States for Business; and WHEREAS, it is imperative that Virginia continue to explore ways in which its education system can support the workforce demands of a business-friendly state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the Department of Education be requested to create regional Innovation Councils. The Department of Education (Department) shall establish one Innovation Council in each of the eight Superintendent's Regions in the Commonwealth to discuss strategies for preparing students to meet the future workforce needs of the Commonwealth. Each Innovation Council shall meet at least twice annually and shall include educators, members of the business community, members from institutions of higher education in the region, local and state elected officials, and any other members whose participation the Department deems appropriate. The Department shall submit to the Division of Legislative Automated Systems an executive summary and report of its progress in meeting the request of this resolution no later than the first day of the 2015 Regular Session of the General Assembly. The executive summary and report shall be submitted for publication as a report document as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents and reports and shall be posted on the General Assembly's website. |
