Commending the United Way of Roanoke Valley.

WHEREAS, for 100 years, the United Way of Roanoke Valley has brought together people, resources, and strong community partners to improve lives and enhance the region for future generations by identifying and addressing complex issues; and

WHEREAS, the United Way of Roanoke Valley provides critical support to a range of nonprofit organizations in the region; and

WHEREAS, the United Way of Roanoke Valley helps maintain high quality early childhood education programs and makes early childhood education available to families in need through government grants; and

WHEREAS, the United Way of Roanoke Valley also strives to ensure that young people reach their fullest potential through programs to promote high school education; and

WHEREAS, the United Way of Roanoke Valley provides the tools and support local families need to stay strong, healthy, and self-sufficient by offering financial assistance, education, and other resources; and

WHEREAS, according the United Way of Roanoke Valley's 2021–2022 annual report, the organization helped 756 children access childcare, 100 youths access mental health services, and 361 people access preventative care; the organization also served nearly 11,000 meals in that time period; and

WHEREAS, the United Way of Roanoke Valley has fulfilled its mission through the generosity of local residents and community partners and the hard work and dedication of hundreds of volunteers each year; and

WHEREAS, the United Way of Roanoke Valley began commemorating its 100th anniversary in October 2023 with a pep rally in Elmwood Park in Roanoke; the free event featured marching bands and cheerleaders from local high schools and celebrated the way the local community has rallied around important causes in the organization's history; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the United Way of Roanoke Valley on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Abby Hamilton, president and chief executive officer of the United Way of Roanoke Valley as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the organization's vital support for local nonprofit organizations and legacy of achievements in service to the community.
