Commending Alexandra Gressitt.

WHEREAS, Alexandra Gressitt has helped Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg achieve national renown as a research library while providing exceptional services to the local community; and

WHEREAS, Alexandra Gressitt began her career as an assistant reference librarian and worked as an archivist at North Carolina State University and St. Mary's College while pursuing graduate-level studies; and

WHEREAS, before joining Thomas Balch Library in 2003, Alexandra Gressitt also worked as curator of manuscripts and archives at the Indiana Historical Society, archivist for the City of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, assistant university archivist at the University of Southern Mississippi, and archives research services director at the Library of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Alexandra Gressitt used her wide range of experience and expertise to help Thomas Balch Library become a world-class destination for history and genealogy researchers, overseeing significant growth and modernization; and

WHEREAS, Alexandra Gressitt converted Thomas Balch Library's catalog from the Dewey Decimal System to the Library of Congress Classification and granted people in more than 100 countries access to the library's resources through the Online Computer Library Center's WorldCat Discovery service; and

WHEREAS, Alexandra Gressitt renewed partnerships with local schools, including George Mason University, and helped develop regular classes, lecture series, exhibits, and other events; she also established an internship program and invigorated the library's volunteer program; and

WHEREAS, in 2015, Alexandra Gressitt guided the creation of the Thomas Balch Library Foundation to further support innovative program and strengthen the library's community engagement through outreach projects; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Alexandra Gressitt for her years of outstanding service as director of the Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alexandra Gressitt as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for her achievements in service to the Leesburg community and contributions to the field of library science.
