| WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to | ||
| recognize Dr. Charlotte J. Davis, the First Lady of Galilee | ||
| Missionary Baptist Church, who is being honored at the Sundresses | ||
| and Sandals celebration on August 12, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Charlotte Davis was baptized | ||
| as a young girl at Greater New Hope Baptist Church; she graduated | ||
| valedictorian of her class at Booker T. Washington High School, | ||
| and she went on to earn two master's degrees in education, an | ||
| accomplishment that allowed her to follow her passion for helping | ||
| young people; in 2006, she earned a doctorate of philosophy in | ||
| counseling education from Sam Houston State University, and she | ||
| currently serves as director of Guidance and Counseling for the | ||
| Aldine Independent School District; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Davis is a faithful and beloved member of | ||
| Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, where her husband, the | ||
| Reverend Dr. Edwin Allen Davis, serves as pastor; she contributes | ||
| to the church by serving as director of the Scholarship Ministry | ||
| and as a Sunday school teacher, and she is always ready to serve | ||
| the church family in any capacity; and | ||
| WHEREAS, A highly respected scholar and community leader, | ||
| Dr. Davis has been recognized by several organizations for her | ||
| many accomplishments; she has been honored with a Woman of | ||
| Excellence Award from the Omicron Tau Omega Chapter of the Alpha | ||
| Kappa Alpha Sorority and with a Living Legend Award from Prairie | ||
| View A&M University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Dr. Davis is a source of strength to the | ||
| congregants of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, and she is | ||
| admired by many for her kindness, her generosity, and her | ||
| faithful service to others; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 85th | ||
| Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Dr. Charlotte | ||
| J. Davis for her many contributions to the community and to | ||
| Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and extend to her best wishes | ||
| in all her future endeavors; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for | ||
| her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. | ||
