WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and | ||
meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the friends and family | ||
of Dr. Lauren Gray Gilstrap who passed away on October 21, 2022, at | ||
the age of 38; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap was born to Rodney and Sherry | ||
Gilstrap in Marshall on November 25, 1983, and she grew up with the | ||
companionship of a brother, Stephen; she graduated as valedictorian | ||
of her high school class and she received two bachelor's degrees | ||
from The University of Texas at Austin, where she was a Truman | ||
Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa; she went on to earn a doctor | ||
of medicine degree and a master's degree in public health from | ||
Harvard University, and she completed an internal medicine | ||
residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as fellowships | ||
in cardiovascular medicine, heart failure, and cardiac | ||
transplantation at Brigham and Women's Hospital; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 2018, Dr. Gilstrap moved to Hanover, New | ||
Hampshire, to join the faculty of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical | ||
Center Heart and Vascular Center with a joint appointment in the | ||
Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice; in | ||
addition, she was an assistant professor at the Dartmouth College | ||
Geisel School of Medicine, and in 2021, she became the program head | ||
for advanced heart disease and transplant cardiology in the Heart | ||
and Vascular Center; during her time at Dartmouth, she was | ||
recognized as an outstanding clinician, educator, and mentor for | ||
students, residents, fellows, and faculty; and | ||
WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Dr. Gilstrap benefited from | ||
the love and support of her wife, Janet Milley, and she took great | ||
pride in her two children, Katelyn and David; in her leisure hours, | ||
she enjoyed skiing, snowboarding, climbing mountains, and | ||
traveling with her family and friends; and | ||
WHEREAS, Lauren Gilstrap embraced life to the fullest, and | ||
she will forever remain a vibrant presence for those who knew and | ||
loved her; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature | ||
hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Lauren Gray Gilstrap and | ||
extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it | ||
further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for her family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this | ||
day, it do so in memory of Dr. Lauren Gilstrap. |
